Liani Solari
I’m a Sydney-based media professional with extensive experience as a writer, editor, chief subeditor and blogger across a range of consumer and custom-published print titles and digital content.
Specialising in travel media, I’ve worked on content for travel and tourism brands such as Qantas, Virgin Australia, Lonely Planet and VisitCanberra. From 2010 to 2021, I was a member of the Australian Society of Travel Writers (ASTW). I’m also a qualified tour guide.
My website features a selection of articles, interviews and blog posts I’ve written in the categories of travel, people, the arts, history, food and nature. I’ve also written or edited content about various other subjects, including health, business and sustainability.
In 2021 and 2022, I completed selected units in the Master of Teaching program at Macquarie University, producing a digital portfolio that explores the use of technology in teaching secondary English and History.
Snapshot
- When I left school I wanted to be an archaeologist.
- I’ve left my heart in San Francisco.
- I’ve lost my luggage in Havana, Cuba.
- My favourite city is my home town, Sydney, followed by Venice and Barcelona.
- The dumbest thing I’ve done on a trip is snorkel in a sinkhole on a deserted coral reef in the Cook Islands.
- The second-dumbest thing I’ve done is get too close to a wild elephant seal on a beach in California’s Big Sur region.
- My favourite icon is the winged lion of Venice.
- I love doing walking tours in a new city.
- When in Rome, I eat dolci (sweets) for breakfast and walk off the calories later.
- My travel philosophy is ‘Go where the olives grow’.
